New Laser Animation Series - Karuuk

2026-08-25

I am working on a new series that will go over how to take a video recorded on your device, import it into Photoshop, rotoscope a frame animation and then convert that into a importable SVG sequence to be used in LaserOS or other laser software. Here is the finished animation that I created and then converted to a laser animation to use with my Lasercube MKII 7.5w:

The first part on this will focus on the video capture guidelines and recommendations, and getting the project imported into Photoshop and set up for rotoscoping. I will then cover the rotoscoping process, sharing some time-saving tricks and tips to help you get a finished animation done quickly.

Part 2 will include a Python script that will help you take your animation and convert it into a format that is usable by LaserOS. They essentially want an SVG frame animation, and I personally find that painting my animation in Photoshop, rather than Illustrator, is much easier and that I want to rely on software to help me vectorize the laser animation rather than spend my time painting in Illustrator.

There are a few reasons for this, but one of the main ones is that Illustrator is just slower for painting. Frame animation can take some time, but if done correctly and systematically you can save a TON of time working in a better flow state in Photoshop. At least in my humble opinion!

I will expand upon this soon.
